MTG Universes Beyond Fallout Set Reveals Reprints and New Cards

superadmin

Wizards of the Coast unveiled a plethora of spoilers during its first-look stream for the upcoming Universes Beyond Fallout set. Alongside new cards, the set features reprints of timeless Magic: The Gathering (MTG) cards, all adorned with fresh artwork showcasing the iconic Vault Boy from the Fallout franchise.

Vault Boy, a young blond man depicted as a 50’s style cartoon with a thumbs-up and a smile, has become synonymous with the Fallout series. He represents the innocence and naivete of a bygone era, before the devastating nuclear fallout.

Sol Ring

Mana Cost: 1
Type: Artifact
Rarity: Rare
Ability: TAP: add two colorless mana

Sol Ring needs no introduction—it is an absolute staple in Commander decks. Vault Boy adds a touch of humor to the card, giving his iconic thumbs-up before unleashing the horrors of the vault upon the world.

Nuka-Cola Vending Machine

Mana Cost: 3
Type: Artifact
Rarity: Uncommon
Ability: 1 TAP: Create a Food token. Whenever you sacrifice a Food, create a tapped Treasure token.

Fans of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas will recall the Nuka-Cola Vending Machines found in abandoned diners. Making its debut in MTG, the Nuka-Cola Vending Machine offers an interesting game design. It allows players to tap one mana to create a food token, which can then be sacrificed to generate a tapped treasure token. This card is sure to see play and help players generate ample mana, especially considering the various ways to create food tokens.

Command Tower

Type: Land
Rarity: Uncommon
Ability: TAP: Add one mana of any color in your commander’s color identity.

Similar to Sol Ring, Command Tower is a must-have card for any deck. This unique land generates one mana of any color that matches the commander’s identity. The artwork features Vault Boy atop an improvised Command Tower made of junk. No Commander deck is complete without this quintessential card.

Crucible of Worlds

Mana Cost: 3
Type: Artifact
Rarity: Rare
Ability: You may play lands from your graveyard.

Crucible of Worlds is a powerhouse card often included in Commander decks that utilize graveyard strategies. For three mana, it acts as a bridge between the dead and the living, allowing players to bring back lands from their graveyard. In this new artwork, Vault Boy holds up a G.E.C.K. box—a container supposedly containing everything humanity needs to rebuild civilization. This illustration perfectly complements the card’s abilities.

Wasteland

Type: Land
Rarity: Rare
Ability: TAP: Sacrifice Wasteland: Destroy target nonbasic land.

Similar to the other Vault Boy cards, this new version of Wasteland adds a humorous touch compared to its predecessor. Players can choose to tap Wasteland for one colorless mana or sacrifice it to destroy an opponent’s nonbasic land. Including Wasteland in the Vault Boy collection is fitting, as most locations in Fallout are wastelands.

Intelligence Bobble Head

Mana Cost: 3
Type: Artifact
Rarity: Uncommon
Ability: TAP: Add one mana of any color. 5, TAP: Draw X cards, where X is the number of Bobbleheads you control.

Bobbleheads are collectible items in Fallout, often hidden in unexpected places. This Artifact card follows the game’s logic by rewarding players for collecting Bobbleheads. The more Bobbleheads they control on the battlefield, the more cards they can draw.

Arcane Signet

Mana Cost: 2
Type: Artifact
Rarity: Uncommon
Ability: TAP: Add one mana of any color in your commander’s color identity.

Arcane Signet, originally released in the Wilds of Eldraine set, has quickly become a staple in Commander decks. This mana rock allows players to generate mana of any color that matches their Commander’s identity. Its comparison to Fallout’s Pip-Boy device adds a delightful touch of humor.

The Universes Beyond Fallout set promises to be an engaging crossover product, with fans eagerly anticipating its release on March 8th. Players will have the opportunity to enjoy these alternative art cards and explore the exciting possibilities they bring to the game.
