A new data mine of Pokémon UNITE has revealed that the Legendary Paradox Pokémon Miraidon will be joining the battle on Aeos Island in the coming months. This will make Miraidon the fourth Legendary Pokémon to be added to the game, alongside Urshifu, Zacian, and Mewtwo. However, the inclusion of these powerful Pokémon has sparked controversy due to their inherent strengths surpassing other playable Pokémon.
The data mine also suggests that team limitations may be implemented through EX Licenses, exclusive to Legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo and Zacian. These licenses will restrict each team to using only one Legendary Pokémon, aiming to balance the game without diminishing the power of these legendary creatures. It is uncertain if Miraidon will be part of these EX Licenses, but it is highly likely.
The implementation of Miraidon into Pokémon UNITE poses some challenges as it possesses various capabilities outside of battle in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. For example, players can ride Miraidon in the overworld. However, since Lapras already fulfills this role in the MOBA, it is unlikely that Miraidon will have the same function. Nevertheless, its status as a Paradox Pokémon may introduce a new mechanic to the game.
In addition to the discovery of Miraidon, the data mine also revealed more details about Meowscarada, which is set to debut in early December. Players will have the opportunity to earn its UNITE License for free. Furthermore, Gyarados and Metagross are rumored to be joining the roster of playable Pokémon in the near future, with their powerful movesets also being uncovered.
The addition of Zacian and Mewtwo to Pokémon UNITE received criticism from players who felt that the game’s balance was compromised by the inclusion of these overpowering Pokémon. While patches have attempted to address this issue, the introduction of EX Licenses appears to be the immediate solution to balance the game and may impact Miraidon’s inclusion. However, if more Legendary Pokémon are added in the future, these licenses may become tedious rather than beneficial.
In the meantime, Pokémon UNITE players can anticipate the release of Meowscarada in the next few weeks, marking the first playable Pokémon from the Paldea region in the game.
