Nintendo Switch 2 Performance Details Revealed in Court Emails

superadmin

Rumors about Nintendo’s next console, the Switch 2, have been circulating among gamers. Recently, emails revealed during Microsoft’s case with the FTC shed some light on the potential performance of the upcoming console.

According to court documents, executives from Activision Blizzard, who were in talks to be acquired by Microsoft, had a meeting with Nintendo representatives to discuss the next iteration of the Nintendo Switch. An email exchange from December 2022 disclosed disappointing details about the console’s performance power.

The emails suggested that the next generation of the Switch would have performance comparable to that of a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, which are not the latest consoles in their respective brand lines. While most of the emails were redacted, one portion from Activision’s senior vice president of global platform strategy & partner relations, Chris Schnakenberg, was made public.

Schnakenberg stated, “Given the closer alignment to Gen8 platforms in terms of performance and our previous offerings on PS4 / Xbox One, it is reasonable to assume we could make something compelling for the NG Switch as well. It would be helpful to secure early access to development hardware prototypes and prove that out nice and early.”

Earlier this summer, Nintendo reportedly provided development kits for the next version of the Switch to partner studios. The console is expected to launch in the latter half of 2024.
