Nintendo has surged ahead in the race for the 2023 Game Awards, securing an impressive 15 nominations across various categories. This puts them two nominations ahead of their closest competitor, PlayStation. While the winners won’t be announced until December 7th, it seems that Nintendo has a strong chance of taking home at least one award. However, they face tough competition from other highly anticipated games released this year.
One of Nintendo’s standout titles, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, has been nominated for Game of the Year alongside heavy hitters like Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, and Spider-Man 2. But Nintendo’s nominations don’t stop there. Their recently released Super Mario Bros. Wonder has also earned a spot among the nominees, despite being launched in late October.
Currently, Nintendo is represented in nine out of the 31 award categories. They have the potential to win in categories such as Best Game Direction, Best Adaptation, Best Art Direction, and Best Score and Music. Some of these categories even feature multiple titles from Nintendo’s 2023 lineup.
Nintendo’s success at the 2022 Game Awards was equally impressive, with 10 nominations out of 32 categories. While they fell short of winning Game of the Year with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 losing to Elden Ring, they secured victories in areas like Best Action Game with Bayonetta 3 leading the way.
The outcome of this year’s Game Awards will determine if Nintendo can replicate their previous success. With titles like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in their arsenal, it’s safe to say that Nintendo has a strong chance. The Game Awards will take place on December 7th, where all will be revealed.
