A player called megaderp675 took to Reddit on Oct. 3 to admit their major misconception while playing Baldur’s Gate 3. They realized they never encountered the titular city of Baldur’s Gate, which is introduced in Act Three, and mistakenly believed they had completed the game after killing Gale in Act Two.
In Act Two, players can explore Moonrise Towers and encounter the Elder Brain, controlled by Mind Flayers. If Gale is in the party, he suggests sacrificing himself to destroy the Elder Brain, along with Orin, Ketheric Thorm, and Lord Enver Gortash. This results in an explosive ending that destroys the Mind Flayer Colony but releases the current Mind Flayers and initiates an Illithid plague.
While this ending is not ideal, some players argue that without knowledge of a third act, it seems like a reasonable choice. One comment on Reddit states, “Blowing Gale up is the immediate smart move if we don’t know there’s another chapter.”
