Players Want More Friendzone Options in Baldur’s Gate 3 Romance Interactions

Tim Price

Players of Baldur’s Gate 3 are expressing their desire for more friendzone options when it comes to romance interactions with companions. While the game allows players to romance almost every companion, there is a lack of dialogue options to simply remain friends. This has led to players feeling the need for more diverse interactions and dialogue changes.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, companions often push for romance if players have a good relationship with them. However, there is no option to friendzone them, which is a common experience in real life. A Reddit user, FormerJournalist2491, highlighted this issue on October 26th, pointing out that the game lacks the ability to reject romantic advances from companions.

The current dialogue options in the game typically offer two choices for pursuing a romantic relationship, with the only difference being the timing. Players can choose to engage in a romantic encounter immediately or postpone it for a later time. The remaining options are often rude, directly telling the companions to pursue someone else. Unfortunately, these options can also come across as insulting to the companions.

While there have been some updates in the past two months that added friendzoning options for certain companions, such as Gale, there are still relationships where players cannot avoid romance without insulting the interested party. Players have expressed frustration with characters like Halsin, who accuses them of leading him on after only two conversations, or Karlach, who expresses immediate interest after just one interaction.

Some players have resorted to “ghosting” the companions, ignoring their advances altogether. This behavior mirrors real-life dating experiences, but it is not the most considerate approach. Players are hoping for more platonic dialogue options that allow them to express the need for friendship without hurting the companions’ feelings.

Given that Baldur’s Gate 3 is still a relatively new game, players are optimistic that future updates from Larian Studios will address these concerns and introduce more diverse dialogue options. Minor improvements like these can enhance the overall player experience and provide a greater sense of agency in shaping relationships within the game.
