Sony has officially announced the highly anticipated “slim” version of the PlayStation 5, which is set to launch next month, just in time for the 2023 holiday season. The global rollout will begin with the release in the United States in November, with specific launch dates expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
The new console, designed to cater to the evolving needs of players, offers a smaller form factor without compromising on the full-power PS5 experience. It includes an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for increased internal storage. Despite its compact size, the slim PS5 retains all the advanced technology features that make it the best gaming console.
Compared to previous models, the slim PS5 has been reduced in volume by over 30% and in weight by 18% and 24%. This makes it more convenient and portable for gamers.
Sony is offering two models of the slim PS5. The Digital Edition, priced at $449 (a $50 increase from the original Digital PS5), does not include the Blu-ray disc drive. However, purchasers of this model have the option to add on the disc drive later, which can be purchased separately for $79.99. The other model, which comes with the Blu-ray disc drive, remains priced at $499. Both models will come with a horizontal stand.
With the upcoming release of highly anticipated games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, along with recent releases like EA Sports FC 24, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, and Baldur’s Gate 3, there will be plenty of exciting titles for gamers to enjoy on the PS5 this holiday season.
