While the wording may have raised a few eyebrows, it actually refers to the size of the Venom and Spider-Men miniature included in the collector’s edition. However, people couldn’t help but make jokes and memes about the unintentional innuendo.
Fans are sharing gifs and images of Venom with captions like “19 inches of what now?” in a mix of curiosity and horror. Some even pointed out a similar incident with Nintendo’s tweet about Cat Mario, where the caption was equally questionable.
Interestingly, there is a subset of fans who are sexually attracted to Venom, whether it’s the portrayal by Tom Hardy or Tony Todd. This phenomenon, known as teratophilia, involves a sexual attraction to monsters. Venom’s menacing appearance, sharp teeth, and muscular physique make him an appealing character for those inclined towards this attraction. Other monsters that people find attractive include Pennywise from It.
While it’s unclear if PlayStation intentionally capitalized on this fascination, the accidental wording has certainly generated more attention for the collector’s edition of Spider-Man 2, set to be released on October 20, 2023.
