Starfield’s Planets: Hollow Spheres with Low-Res Images

superadmin

Starfield, the highly anticipated game from Bethesda, has been marketed as having a vast number of explorable planets. However, it has been revealed that landing on these planets involves a loading screen, rather than a seamless transition.

Alannah Pearce, a former journalist and current Sony Santa Monica developer, decided to test the limits of the game by attempting to fly directly to the surface of Pluto. After fast-traveling to Pluto, she embarked on a seven-hour journey to reach the planet.

As Pearce approached Pluto, she discovered that it had an orbit, which she found to be a cool detail simulated by Bethesda. However, upon closer inspection, she noticed that Pluto appeared to be a low-resolution rendering. Undeterred, she continued her journey.

Finally reaching Pluto, Pearce encountered a surprising revelation – she clipped straight through the planet. Initially thinking that the planet was flat, she turned around only to realize that she couldn’t see it anymore. It turns out that Pluto is a hollow sphere, confirming the theories of Rick and Morty fans.

Pearce explains that if all the planets in Starfield are hollow spheres with low-res images, it won’t be too demanding on the game. This aligns with the game’s focus on “talking to people” rather than space exploration. While this news may disappoint some fans, the manual planet-hopping experience would likely be time-consuming and not enjoyable.

If you’re looking for a game that offers planet-to-planet travel, No Man’s Sky might be a better choice. However, if you’re still excited about Starfield despite its limitations, you can dive in and start building bases.
