Team Secret has enlisted the talented player SumaiL as a stand-in for the upcoming BetBoom Dacha LAN event. This move comes as both teams, Secret and Team Aster, assess their Dota 2 futures after missing out on The International 2023.
Secret’s fourth-place exit in the European qualifiers ended Puppey’s streak of attending every iteration of TI. Similarly, SumaiL’s time with Team Aster in China concluded with a disappointing loss, leaving them tied for fifth in the region’s qualifiers.
Although Secret showed improvement during the TI12 qualifiers, they were unable to break through the competition. SumaiL also performed well with Aster, but the team failed to meet expectations at multiple events, including the Bali Major and TI12 qualifiers.
With both teams now out of the Dota Pro Circuit, Secret will participate in the BetBoom Dacha LAN on September 10th. They will face TI-bound teams and Nigma Galaxy. While Secret has not made any roster changes, Armel will take a break to visit family, allowing SumaiL to stand in for the event. Both Nigma Galaxy and Team Aster have agreed to this arrangement.
This presents an opportunity for Secret to evaluate how SumaiL, a top-tier talent, fits into their current lineup. Depending on the post-TI12 landscape, there is a possibility that SumaiL may join Puppey on Secret next season. However, most teams wait until after TI to finalize roster changes or acquire new talent.
Typically, major Dota 2 signings and roster moves are completed within two to three weeks after TI. Therefore, the official roster shuffle season will commence on November 1st or during the TI afterparty.
