T1 Faces Internet Issues Ahead of Worlds Playoffs

superadmin

T1, one of the top teams in the 2023 League of Legends World Championship, has encountered a major obstacle on their path to the knockout stage. The team’s general manager, Jeong “Becker” Hoi-yoon, revealed on social media that they have been grappling with internet problems for the past two days at their accommodation in Busan. This has hindered their ability to participate in crucial practice sessions, including scrims and solo queue matches, before the playoffs begin.

Despite repeated requests for assistance from Riot and the tournament organizers, T1 has yet to receive a solution to their internet woes. The team’s COO, Josh Woongki Ahn, confirmed these issues and mentioned that other teams staying at the same location have also voiced complaints.

This situation is particularly concerning as teams enter the most critical phase of the World Championship. Adequate preparation is essential for success in the tournament, and T1’s inability to practice effectively puts them at a disadvantage. With a chance to represent their countries in the finals at stake, teams must have the opportunity to train thoroughly and efficiently to compete against the world’s strongest squads.

Esports journalist and content creator Daniel “Quest” Kwon highlighted that teams faced various internet and logistics problems during the play-in and Swiss stages of the tournament. While issues can arise, it is crucial for organizers to swiftly address and resolve them to maintain competitive integrity. Unequal preparation opportunities could undermine the fairness of the competition.

T1 still has some time before their quarterfinal match against LNG Esports. If the tournament organizers can rectify the internet issues promptly, T1 should be able to squeeze in much-needed practice before the series commences on Sunday, November 5.
