PlayStation and developer Naughty Dog have officially announced the highly anticipated release of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered in early 2024. This confirmation comes just hours after a leak suggesting the remake was on its way.
A new trailer for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was unveiled on Twitter via the official Naughty Dog account on November 17. The trailer provides a glimpse of the game’s enhanced visuals and exciting new content. Whether you’re a returning player or experiencing the game for the first time, there are plenty of reasons to dive into the remastered version on January 19, 2024.
Instead of simply receiving a visual upgrade, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will introduce a brand new game mode and other exciting features. The new mode, called “No Return,” offers a challenging roguelike survival experience with randomized encounters with enemies. It will test even the most skilled players who thought they had mastered the original game’s combat mechanics. No Return will feature multiple playable characters from throughout the series, including some who are playable for the first time.
Each run in No Return will present unique scenarios and rewards, including unlockable character skins and new characters. Players can also compete on a leaderboard to compare their progress and achievements.
In addition to the new game mode, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will include a Guitar Free Play mode. This allows players to freely play music on a guitar, with customizable options to modify the sound. Naughty Dog has added an audio FX pedal to modulate the guitar’s sound, and players can also change characters and locations within the mode, resulting in unique performances that can be shared with others.
For those interested in the behind-the-scenes development stories, the game will feature three Lost Levels and director commentary throughout the campaign. The Lost Levels were previously cut from the original release and offer a glimpse into what could have been. The campaign commentary will include multiple voices, including Neil Druckman, Halley Gross, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, and Ashley Johnson.
On the technical side, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will boast enhanced visuals with increased texture resolution, improved shadow quality, and faster load times. It will offer Fidelity and Performance modes with upscale 4K output, as well as an option for an unlocked frame rate for compatible monitors.
Naughty Dog has also announced a Collector’s Edition called the “W.L.F. Edition,” which includes a steel case, a set of enamel pins, a Washington Liberation patch, and a set of 47 Society of Champions trading cards.
If you already own The Last of Us Part 2 on PlayStation 4, you can upgrade to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PlayStation 5 for just $10 USD. You’ll also be able to import your save data from the previous version.
