Vitality secures the signing of William “mezii” Merriman, former star rifler for Fnatic, on November 8. The 25-year-old British player will fill the void left by Magisk, who was benched on November 3 and is reportedly joining zonic’s project at the Saudi organization Falcons. Mezii’s arrival confirms earlier speculations among CS2 fans after the BLAST Premier Fall Final rosters were announced.
Mezii, known for his exceptional skills, gained prominence when he joined Cloud9’s “Colossus” roster in September 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the project didn’t yield desired results, mezii stood out as the team’s best player. He has been playing professionally since 2017 and had stints with Endpoint in 2021 before joining Fnatic in August 2021. Mezii took on various roles, including leading Fnatic as the in-game leader after Alex McMeekin’s benching in May 2022. Notably, he guided Fnatic to a top-eight finish at the IEM Rio Major in November 2022 and transitioned to a pure rifling role in July 2023, becoming the team’s star player after the arrival of dexter.
However, mezii will now have to showcase his versatility once again as he is expected to take on the anchor roles previously held by Magisk on the CT side. This is no small feat, considering Magisk’s crucial contributions to Vitality’s success, including their victory at the BLAST Paris Major in May.
Mezii’s debut for Vitality will be at the BLAST Premier Fall Final, a LAN tournament in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a prize pool of $425,000. The team will compete against FaZe Clan, Complexity, Cloud9, Natus Vincere, Astralis, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Heroic for a share of the prize money.
