The release of the Wilds of Eldraine (WOE) set for Magic: The Gathering has caused a significant drop in prices for the unique anime foil cards. These special cards were part of the Enchanting Tales bonus sheet, which featured reprints of 63 MTG Enchantments. Out of these, 20 rare and mythic rare cards received an alternative art anime confetti foil borderless frame treatment. However, the secondary market value of these cards has been steadily declining since the global release of WOE on Sept. 8.
Prior to the release, the foil anime cards were highly sought after, with prices reaching absurdly high levels. Cards like Rhystic Study and Doubling Season were valued at around $500. However, as of Sept. 14, the majority of these foil anime Enchanting Tales cards have seen a significant decrease in value.
Doubling Season, for example, dropped from nearly $500 to $140. Other cards like Smothering Tithe and Rhystic Study also experienced drops of over $100. Currently, only four anime Enchanting Tales cards are valued at over $100, while 11 are priced at $55 or less.
The decline in value can be attributed to a lack of demand on the secondary market and potential price fatigue. Despite the significant drop in prices, these anime Enchanting Tales cards are still worth pursuing in WOE collector booster packs.
Looking ahead, the next MTG set to be released is Commander Doctor Who on Oct. 13, followed by Lost Caverns of Ixalan sometime in November.
