The annual Hallow’s End event in World of Warcraft is back, and this year it comes with a fresh new look and numerous updates. With new achievements and a revamped Headless Horseman encounter, Hallow’s End 2023 is the biggest update the event has ever seen.
One of the lesser-known changes is the update to the iconic Scarlet Monastery dungeon. Both the modern version and the previously inaccessible Vanilla WoW version have received a Halloween makeover, allowing players to experience the original layout of the dungeon with its four unique wings.
Thanks to the technology that allows players to visit previous versions of old zones, the Classic WoW version of the Scarlet Monastery is now accessible. Previously closed off due to a rework in 2012, players can now explore the old Monastery by completing the new Headless Horseman boss fight during the Hallow’s End event.
To gain access to the old Scarlet Monastery, players must defeat the Headless Horseman and obtain “The Scarlet Key,” which is a nod to the old Scarlet Keyring required in the previous version of the game. Interacting with the keyring in the Monastery’s main chamber will grant players the “The Scarlet Key” buff, allowing them to enter the Vanilla versions of the Scarlet Monastery’s wings: Graveyard, Library, Armory, and Cathedral. Players can easily transition back to the reworked version of the dungeon by clicking on the Scarlet Keyring again.
The old Scarlet Monastery can be reached by flying into Tirisfal Glades and heading to the northeast corner of the zone. If players are unlucky with their Headless Horseman runs and don’t obtain the Scarlet Key, it is available for purchase at the Auction House.
