Riot Games Investigating Alleged Match Fixing in League of Legends Series

superadmin

Riot Games is currently conducting an investigation into reports of match fixing in a League of Legends series. The North American Challenger League Spring promotion is under scrutiny, with particular focus on the matches involving Supernova. It is believed that a player may have placed a significant bet on their opponent before the games began.

Supernova, who finished ninth during the regular NACL season, faced defeat in their upper bracket qualifying match against LiT and then suffered a series sweep against Mirage, resulting in their removal from the top-flight league. During the qualifying match drafts, it has been alleged that a Supernova player intentionally made mistakes by deafening their communications and selecting random champions, deviating from the game plan.

The exact details of the case have not been verified yet, but Riot is committed to thoroughly investigating the matter. They have the resources to verify any bets made on the match, which will aid in uncovering the truth. Dot Esports has reached out to Riot for comment but has not received a response at this time.

This incident comes at a difficult time for the NACL, as several top organizations have withdrawn from the second division due to Riot’s decision to make participation in the league optional. Only three out of the 10 LCS teams maintained their NACL rosters for the summer split. The LCS Players Association (LCSPA) even staged a walkout and threatened strike action before reaching an agreement with Riot just days before the split began.

If Riot confirms the involvement of match fixing in this case, it would be a significant blow to the NACL, which was starting to regain its footing. Match fixing has occurred in the League of Legends scene before, with notable cases in the LPL and PCS. The seriousness of such actions cannot be understated, as it undermines the integrity of the competition.

Overall, Riot’s investigation into the alleged match fixing in the NACL series is crucial for maintaining the fairness and credibility of the league. The outcome of this investigation will have a significant impact on the future of the NACL and the measures taken to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
