Riot Drops Hints on Next VALORANT Agent’s Origin
After months of speculation, players believe they have uncovered the origin of the next agent to join VALORANT. Riot Games has been teasing the new agent for quite some time, dropping leaks and hints about their abilities since the end of VCT Masters Tokyo. In the latest “State of the Agents” release, Riot officially teased the agent, along with updates on Deadlock and Gekko, the latest agents in the game.
Chinese Influence Strongly Suggested
The biggest clue came in the form of an image teaser, featuring someone enjoying hot pot, titled “duckblood.” From this image and other subtle hints, players are confident that the agent hails from China, Singapore, or another country with Chinese influence.
Cuisine as a Clue
The image showcases someone at a table, picking up a piece of duck blood from a hot pot divided into nine smaller sections. The specific style of hot pot being served is Sichuan or Chongqing hot pot, known for its spicy broth made with chili oil. This signature dish, with its spicy and numbing flavor, convinced many players that the agent is Chinese.
Expanding into the Chinese Market
Riot’s focus on expanding VALORANT’s market to China further supports the theory of a Chinese agent. Chinese teams have been invited to major VCT events in 2023, and the region will now have its own league. Additionally, Riot celebrated the launch of VALORANT in China by offering a bonus melee bundle to players worldwide.
A Singaporean Twist?
While the evidence points towards a Chinese agent, some players believe the agent may actually be from Singapore or another country with cultural ties to China. In the “State of the Agents” post, Riot subtly name-dropped a VCT player, Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie, who played in the grand finals of Champions 2023. Jinggg is the only player from his country to participate in the event, and his mention in the official developer post seems more than coincidental.
Detective Work Points to Singapore
One VALORANT lore fan on Twitter, Uberchain, has done some detective work and believes the new agent is from Singapore. The image of Chongqing hot pot in the teaser bears a striking resemblance to Uncle Fong, one of Singapore’s top hot pot chain restaurants. Uberchain even suspects that the artist may have used a photo from Uncle Fong as inspiration for the art.
Awaiting the New Agent’s Arrival
While the community eagerly awaits the release of the new duelist, known as Agent 24, by the end of 2023, players have already pointed the community in the right direction regarding the agent’s origin. Whether it’s China, Singapore, or another country with Chinese influence, the next VALORANT agent is sure to bring excitement to the game.
