The latest spoiler for the Blast from the Past Commander Precon reveals The Fifth Doctor, a unique potential commander in Magic: The Gathering. This Time Lord Doctor, accompanied by Tegan Jovanka, possesses an ability that rewards players for their patience and strategic thinking.
The Fifth Doctor stands out among the first eight Doctors and their companions featured in the preconstructed deck. With a mana cost of 2WU and stats of 2/2, he embodies the colors White and Blue in MTG.
One of the key features of The Fifth Doctor is his “Peaceful Coexistence” ability. At the beginning of your end step, each creature you control that didn’t attack or enter the battlefield this turn receives a +1/+1 counter. Additionally, these creatures are untapped. This ability perfectly aligns with the playstyle of Azorius decks, which prefer Tempo or Control strategies over Aggro.
The synergy between The Fifth Doctor and his companions is another exciting aspect. The Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown can tap creatures to Convoke, and with The Fifth Doctor’s ability, these creatures will untap at the end of the turn. Tegan Jovanka, another companion, can also be included as a second commander to ensure that Legendary creatures receive counters, whether they attack or not.
Tegan Jovanka, a Legendary Creature—Human with a mana cost of 2W, complements The Fifth Doctor and other Doctors such as The Fourth Doctor and The Sixth Doctor. Her “Brave Heart” ability grants a +1/+1 boost and Indestructible until the end of the turn to a target attacking Historic creature whenever you attack.
